TIF - Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication with EsophyX®
An Effective Solution for Chronic Acid Reflux
Now there is an effective, long-term incisionless solution for people suffering from chronic acid reflux, or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), who are:
- Experiencing heartburn or other symptoms of GERD more than once a week
- Dissatisfied with pharmaceutical therapies
- Concerned about long-term effects of a lifetime of taking pills
About the TIF Procedure
TIF stands for "Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication" and is performed with the innovative EsophyX surgical device. A unique form of "Natural Orifice Surgery," or NOS for short, TIF represents the next step in the evolution of minimally invasive surgery and offers a huge leap in the evolution of the treatment of GERD.
Similar to laparoscopic GERD surgery, TIF is used to treat the underlying anatomical cause of GERD by reconstructing the body's natural antireflux barrier and and restoring the competency of the gastroesophageal junction, resulting in the effective elimination of GERD.
An Entirely Incisionless Procedure
Because the TIF procedure is performed entirely through the patient's mouth, or "transorally" in medical terms, there are no abdominal incisions in the skin.
- Transoral: TIF is performed from within the GI tract. The EsophyX device is inserted through the patient's mouth.
- Incisionless: There are no skin incision, resulting in reduced discomfort, faster recovery, and better patient satisfaction.
- Fundoplication: This term refers to folding the part of the stomach called the fundus to create folds, or "plications," to form an antireflux valve.
